Polysubstance misuse refers to the use of multiple legal or illicit substances or prescription drugs in a manner other than as prescribed. Providers in a primary care setting can be a key collaborator in addressing polysubstance use, and substance use overall, due to their scope and influence among all populations. This webinar provided an overview of strategies to primary care providers to address polysubstance misuse in their patient population. Participants learned why it is important to address polysubstance misuse; the role of primary care in prevention and treatment services; strategies including screening, brief intervention, referral to treatment or other service, management, and follow-up; evidence-based practices including MAT, and addressing root causes and the unique aspects of each substance through integrated behavioral health.
