This session will continue the discussion from the didactic session on the evidence, education and training, and resources to support primary care, oral health, and behavioral health integration to improve patient outcomes. Presenters will share evidence and integration lessons from the field, including the need for training and education for addressing behavioral health among oral health center staff.

Presenters: Daniel McNeil, PhD; Irene Hilton, DDS, MPH 

Daniel McNeil, PhD, is a clinical health psychologist and professor and chair for the Department of Community dentistry at the University of Florida and a distinguished scientist whose major research focus are on behavioral and social determinants of oral health and its relation to overall health. His efforts are on elevating the role and inclusion of behavioral and social sciences in the oral health practice. In basic behavioral and social research, he has contributed to the conceptual understanding of the psychopathological manifestations in mental health disorders, as well as acute and chronic orofacial pain. 

Irene Hilton, DDS, MPH, is a trainer and dental consultant for the National Network for Oral Health Access, an HRSA National Training and Technical Assistance Partner (NTTAP) providing free training and technical assistance to health center grantees and look-alikes. She has served on the Board of Directors for six years before becoming NNOHA’s Dental Consultant in 2011. She is also a staff dentist at the San Francisco Department of Health.
